Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning
Dermaplaning missing from the start of the sentence is a physical exfoliation procedure. It requires the use of a sterile, surgical scalpel to gently “shave” the skin’s surface, removing the top-most layer of dead skin along with fine, vellus hair (aka peach fuzz). Dermaplaning is an ideal treatment for those with excess vellous hair the can cause dirt and oil to clog follicles. Dermaplaning is also a prime exfoliation treatment for those who are pregnant or nursing and not allowed to use chemical peeling agents. Patients often wonder if their hair will grow back thicker and darker after dermaplaning. This is simply a myth. As long as the hair is superficial vellus hair, it will continue to grow back at the same rate and texture as it did prior to treatment.
